What exactly is this sport? Participants drive a marked course of 6-25 miles. These drives are not a race; all competitors have the same set time to finish. Horses are scored by veterinarians (pulse, respiration, soundness, fatigue). Reinsmanship is not judged. The horse that has the most points at the end wins. It's all about careful preparation for the drive, taking excellent care of the horse and negotiating natural trail obstacles as a team.
Who can participate? Equines and humans of all shapes, sizes, breeds and abilities are welcome in distance driving. This includes minis, ponies and mules. All you need is a safe vehicle of any kind (no bicycle tires) and well-fitting harness.
Where are the events? Competitions are held in the following states: Wisconsin; Illinois; Minnesota; Florida. If you live in or near one of these states and you're passionate about carriage driving, please join us to learn more!!!
Why are we holding this clinic in winter? Because if you want to get in shape to be on the trails in spring 2023, we want to inspire you with this session EARLY in the year to get you pumped up and ready to compete!
What is the cost to participate in the clinci? FREE to participate; limited to the first 20 signed up.
